MICROSEISMIC MONITORING PROJECT FOR SURFACE BOUNDARY VIOLATION PREVEN-TION AT A COAL MINE IN SHANXI

2025-11-11

Objective

Conduct 24-hour monitoring of the mining area and its surroundings to identify and analyze microseismic events, infer the location and depth of mining operations, and prevent boundary violations.

Project Characteristics

The project is located in Datong, Shanxi Province, characterized by significant surface undulation and predominantly covered by loess layers. The mining area includes a few villages, farmland, and roads.

Method

Microseismic monitoring with a station spacing of 100 meters.

Equipment

65 units of Ant-3C 5Hz nodal seismometers

Performance

Surface waves achieved frequencies up to 90 Hz, with a minimum exploration depth reaching 0.5 meters. Through comprehensive analysis of event locations and event energy magnitudes, the microseismic events exhibit relatively high energy levels, suggesting they are likely blasting events.Based on the spatial distribution of monitored microseismic events, suspected mining activities cluster southwest, south, and east outside the mining boundary. These activities are predominantly concentrated around an elevation of approximately 1350 meters.
